St Ives Bridge Chapel

It is a superb example of a very rare kind of building with the mid-stream chapel rising directly from the waters of the Great Ouse and views all round of the river and the historic St Ives quay. The hatches through which bridge tolls were passed into the chapel can still be seen, as can the rebuilt arches on the south side of the bridge, a relic of the Civil War when the bridge was broken and replaced with a drawbridge to defend the line of the river against attack by the Royalists.
