St Neots Common

The commons were often heaths on poor soil or, as in St Neots, meadows which were too wet for ploughin. Commoners were allowed to own livestock, which could be grazed on the commons. St Neots Common is a Site of Special Scientific Interest and is one of the few alluvial grasslands (growing on silt deposited by the river), which has remained under a traditional graing regime.
