RSPB Havergate IslandRSPB Havergate Island

Opportunities to visit Havergate Island are rare. This splendid nature reserve is owned and managed by the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) and is famous for having played a major role in the conservation of the Avocet in Britain. But the site is much more than this - a large colony of nesting gulls, super displays of wild flowers in spring and early summer, migrant wading birds in late summer, terrific views of the surrounding countryside and thousands of waders and ducks in the autumn and winter months, most notably Black tailed Godwit, Avocet, Wigeon, Teal and Pintail.

For further information on visiting Suffolk's only island, telephone the visitor centre at RSPB's Minsmere nature reserve on 01728 648281 or visit the RSPB website.
