Keeping an eye on the East of England

Welcome to the latest news from East of England Tourism. Summer will soon be over but there is still plenty to do and see in the East of England. From city breaks to coastal walks - foraging in the forest for the local mushrooms or enjoying some local brew around a cosy fire.

Discover the East of England's fantastic architecture and culture with Heritage Open Days 2010, from Thursday 9 to Sunday 12 September.

There is free access to properties that are usually closed to the public or normally charge for admission.

Watch the Tour of Britain this September
The main peleton of the Tour of Britain

The East of England region will provide the backdrop for Stages 6 and 7 of the race. The route has been carefully chosen to highlight the best that the area has to offer, from iconic landmarks to areas of regeneration.

Many of the locations along the route will be holding special events and attractions over the two days.

Stay a little longer guides to the East of England

East of England Tourism is currently producing as set of local information guides to encourage visitors to explore the local area. Five are currently available but more will be available very soon, with fifty being produced over the next three years.

Flavours of Autumn in the East of England

Enjoy the flavours of Autumn in the East of England - apples, oysters and pumpkins. Celebrate British Food Fortnight at our delicious food and drink festivals.

Eat East gives you a perfect guide to a bumper autumn harvest. Go picking for plums and blackberries to make heart-warming crumbles. Look out also for locally grown apples - and take a wander through an ancient orchard, such as Willock Farm at Wisbech or Shenley Park (nr. St. Albans).

Major Events for 2011
Celebrating St Georges Day in the East of England

The East of England offers a wide and varied range of events to suit all tastes - from carnivals, air displays and arts festivals to historical re-enactments, craft fairs and agricultural shows. Or for the more unusual, try cheese rolling, pea shooting and snail racing - all held in the region throughout the year.

Press Visits in 2011
Mountain Biking, one of the London 2012 venues in the East of England

As the East of England is right on London's doorstep and with two of London 2012 Games events taking place in our region we are looking to host press trips in 2011 to demonstrate what we have to offer visitors both pre, during and post the 2012.
