Clacton-on-Sea

The capital of the 'Essex Sunshine Coast', Clacton is a popular seaside town with tree-lined streets, sand/shingle beaches and beautiful clifftop gardens. The fun-packed 19th C. pier offers fairground rides and sea fishing. Try out a range of watersports, or enjoy an evening out at one of the two theatres. The town centre has a range of shops, restaurants, pubs and clubs.

Frinton-on-Sea

With a reputation as an exclusive resort, Frinton retains an atmosphere of the 1920/30's. Tree-lined avenues sweep down to the elegant Esplanade and cliff-top greensward. The sandy beach is quiet and secluded. Connaught Avenue - the main shopping street has been dubbed the 'Bond Street' of East Anglia.

Walton-on-the-Naze

Family seaside resort with sandy beaches, seafront gardens and quaint narrow streets. The pier is the second longest in England, offering fairground rides, ten pin bowling and sea angling. Just to the north is The Naze, an unspoilt headland of heath, saltmarshes and sandy beaches - it's 70 feet high cliffs are being severely eroded away.

- Visit the Columbine Centre for summer shows and dancing.
- Climb up the Naze Tower for panoramic coastal views.
- Take a ride on the little train to the end of the pier.
- Search out the seals on a boat trip into The Backwaters.

- Explore the Maritime Museum housed in the old lifeboat house.
- Go fossil hunting on the cliffs of The Naze.

Other 'Seaside' Places of Interest

Holland-on-Sea and Jaywick (both nr. Clacton-on-Sea) have quiet sandy beaches and picnic areas. At the Victorian-style seaside resort of Dovercourt, look out for the iron lighthouses which sit along the sandy beach. Blue Flag and Quality Coast Awards.
