The Ted Ellis Nature Reserve
The Ted Ellis Trust at Surlingham and Surlingham Wood comprises 130 acres of marsh carr and wood. A 2 mile walk over the last remaining tidal marshes and carrs on the River Yare. A wild and remote area of open fen, reed-beds, alder and willow woodlands with two small broads and a nature trail. Some boardwalks are suitable for wheelchairs. Gumboots are needed for some paths. Car parking facilities available.
"Wheatfen is, in its way, as important as Mount Everest, or the giant redwood forests of America. It is probably the best bit of fen land we have, because we know so much about it." - Dr David Bellamy
