By Rail

The East of England is well served with extensive rail links, mostly operated by Greater Anglia. The Great Eastern Main Line runs from London Liverpool Street with its terminus at Norwich. The West Anglia Main Line, operated by Great Northern connects King’s Lynn (via the Fen Line) and Cambridge with London with Cross Country and East Midlands trains.

From 2019 Greater Anglia are making the largest investment in rolling stock and services since Victorian times, around £1.5bn.

The Cambridge Line connects the city with London King’s Cross. The region is linked to the North and West by connections via Peterborough. Virgin Trains East Coast operates services on the East Coast Main Line. East Anglia is also well served with a regular rail link to the port of Harwich, and the Stena Line ferry service to and from Hoek van Holland.

When open, Crossrail will greatly improve the journey across London.

Thameslink directly connects Cambridge and Huntingdon to St Pancras International and across the City of London to Gatwick Airport, and then Brighton and Horsham.
