Assington Mill

Assington Mill offers an unusually wide range of over 40 different short courses, from beekeeping to book restoration, which take place on a small 70 acre farm and private nature reserve in one of Suffolk's beautiful secret valleys. Class sizes are small, and the food (home made lunch, biscuits and cakes) comes mainly from the Assington Farm shop. Participants can stay in the farmhouse or in a number of private houses or B&B's nearby.
Since 2008, we also have a holiday cottage converted from part of the former watermill, which overlooks the millpond. There is an excellent pub in the village and another five within three miles of Assington. Assington is just off the A134 and is about six miles from Colchester and the A12 and four miles from Sudbury. There is a railway station at Bures, three miles away and over 20 local buses pass the top of the access track every day.
Courses take place in a classroom built of straw bales and plastered with our own clay, adjacent to the Assington Brook (full provision of disabled students). Many of the staff live locally. We also run tours on green building techniques, wildlife or organic farm management for many other groups to the mill, such as the Greenland Tourist Board, the Ministry of Agriculture for the Ukraine, the twinning association of Great Waltham, the Bures Music Group, Forest School Camps, the Long Melford and Sudbury Societies, the Soc. for the Preservation of Ancient Buildings etc.
Prices
Short courses £40-95 per day.
