Roman Theatre of Verulamium
The Roman Theatre was 1st discovered in 1847 but it was not until 1930-1935 that it was fully excavated. As visible today it is the remains of a complex structure that grew up over the period AD140-AD300. The Theatre was used for religious rites, ceremonies and entertainments and was capable of seating several thousand spectators. It would have no doubt attracted devotees from far afield.
