Snape Marshes  Snape Marshes

Lying on the north bank of the River Alde, between Snape Maltings and the village of Snape, Snape Marshes is a rich mix of wetland habitat, including grazing marsh, reed bed, scrub and wet woodland. With restoration of the marshland through conversation grazing and improvements to the access, Snape Marshes nature reserve is a wonderful haven for people and wildlife.

At almost 60 acres, Snape Marshes is a significant new nature reserve, and its location alongside the Alde Estuary adds considerably to its value for wildlife. Hazelwood Marshes nature reserve (160 acres) is only 2.5 miles to the east, Alde Mudflat's nature reserve (315 acres) is just 1 mile south and it adjoins the Alde-Ore Estuary Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). In time we expect the SSSI will be extended to include the new reserve.
