Stevenage Museum
The Story of Stevenage Galleries - This permanent exhibition illustrates the story of Stevenage from pre-history to the present day using film, sound and interactive displays. Try out the Tudor Stocks for size or have a go at doing the washing Victorian style. See how Stevenage looked in the 1950s by watching some archive film footage in the mini cinema and listen to local people talking about their experiences of living in a new town. Design a new town on the computer game or set the table for tea then do the washing up in the 50s kitchen. Younger visitors are invited to time travel with 'Sam' around the gallery to meet many local people from the past. Special Exhibitions - These exhibitions change at least twice a year and subjects range from the Ancient Egyptians to Hands on Science.
We also have small displays, often generated from local interest groups. If you belong to a local group and would like to showcase what you do, we would love to hear from you. Events - We offer a lively programme of events all year which include story sessions for the under 5's, reminiscence workshops, local interest lunchtime lectures and lots more. Our many weekend events are always suitable for the whole family.
All details of events and exhibitions can be found in the 'What’s on leaflet' printed three times a year. To get yours free, contact the museum and we will add you to the mailing list. We will send you a copy as soon as it’s printed.
