Theatre Royal

As the only working Regency playhouse in the UK, we have a rich heritage to enjoy, as well as a unique auditorium that allows you to get up close and personal with the onstage action, experiencing live entertainment in a brand new way—that’s hundreds of years old!
We present an eclectic and exciting programme of shows and events throughout the year, as well as tours and talks, enabling you to find out more about the history and the significance of this unique building. We also run many activities out in the local community, with our superb creative learning department working with everyone from 3 – 99 years old in schools, community groups, and third sector organisations; and host a variety of training sessions and courses promoting new talent and preparing individuals for the challenges life presents within business and performance. All of this work is at the heart of the Theatre Royal— a theatre that has always been at the centre of its community.
The Theatre Royal Bury St Edmunds— designed in 1919 by William Wilkins and now a National Trust property run as a professional producing and presenting theatre — continues to thrive in our very special market town. Our doors are open to you; do come and visit....
