Cycling the Crown Lake Link

Matthew Barber

Serpentine Green,

This 11.5 mile route starts at the Serpentine Green Shopping Centre in Hampton before joining up with the Green Wheel and heading out towards the Crown Lakes Country Park. After passing through the Park the route continues into the Fens, passing through Farcet, as you amble along the Old Course of the River Nene to Park Farm and Stanground. After crossing Stanground Lock, you head back towards the city centre, before cycling along the Embankment and joining up with the Wellingtonia Cycleway as it roams alongside the Nene Valley Railway. As you make your way through the Ortons you will eventually reach the cycle bridge over Fletton Parkway, which returns you Hampton.

The route is suitable for families as the majority is on quiet lanes, although some on-road cycling and negotiation of junctions is required, thus we would recommend this route to confident cyclists only. At an average speed (8 mph) most cyclists will take approximately 1 hour 30 minutes to complete the route (excluding breaks etc).

Serpentine Green is just off the A1 and follow the A1139.

There is free car parking at Serpentine Green.
Peterborough Train Station - 4 miles.
