9 The Whinlands is a self-catering, family holiday cottage at the heart of Thorpeness near Aldeburgh in Suffolk.
9 The Whinlands
This large family home, five bedrooms, is perfect for big get togethers, ideally located near to Thorpeness Meare and the beach. This is a Grade II listed, spacious and centrally heated family home set over three floors with views to Thorpeness Common. Just a mile north of Aldeburgh is this fascinating seaside village, part of the Heritage Coast, built in the 1920s by Glencairn Stuart Ogilvie, an architect, barrister and playwright.
The mock Tudor style of building is now the hallmark of Thorpeness, where the amenities include the Dolphin Inn, the Thorpeness Hotel with its 18-hole golf course, a Country Club with tennis courts and the Thorpeness Meare and a large shallow boating lake with tearooms nearby.
The beaches are mainly sandy and behind the village are a myriad of footpaths over heath and common land with board-walks to Aldringham and Aldeburgh and north to Sizewell, Dunwich and Southwold for those who enjoy more invigourating walks!
RSPB Minsmere bird sanctuary and the Snape Maltings Concert Hall are also in the area.
