Dereham Windmill is a Grade 2 listed windmill and Exhibition Centre. Lovingly restored and run by a dedicated team of volunteers.
Dereham Windmill is the last of several windmills in the Dereham District. It was built in 1835 and is a five-storey brick tower mill with a boat shaped cap, winded by a six bladed fantail. There are five floors connected by steps that are steep but have good handrails. The windmill was most recently restored from dereliction in 2010 and won the 2014 Bifa Award for Cultural Facilities and became overall winner nationwide.
Monthly art exhibitions are held for local schools, artists and charity organisations to display their work.
The windmill is set in extensive grounds that are connected to a number of rural walks in and around the Dereham area. The Partea Hut tearoom serves a wide range of drinks and refreshments inside and offer a takeaway service.
Regular events are held at the windmill during the year including Craft Fairs, Teddy Bear Zip Wire and the popular Santa visits.
Dereham Windmill is a registered charity and all monies raised go towards ongoing restoration work.
Disabled access to the windmill is only available on the ground floor, where there is a video telling the story of the windmill and how flour was milled.
Full disabled facilities are available within the tearoom and grounds, including a specially adapted picnic bench.
