Description
One of England’s most beautiful small cities – Ely was once an island surrounded by marshes, and famed for its eels. It is dominated by the spectacular cathedral (dating from the 11th C.), with its outstanding Octagon and Lady Chapel. Narrow streets are lined with historic buildings, such as the former home of Oliver Cromwell and his family, now a visitor centre. Sweeping parkland leads to the riverside area with its marina and antiques centre.
