Mills and Meadows Walking Route

Walk beside the River Gipping, once navigated by barges, through the once wet grazing marshes and on to Sproughton with its tithe barn and mill.

Description

This walk begins by following the Gipping Valley River Path, a place of great activity in the 19th century when the river was used to transport goods between Stowmarket and Ipswich. The Bramford Meadows Local Nature Reserve were once grazing wetlands and are now managed for wildlife and pubic access with large areas dominated by agriculture. The walk passes through Sproughton Village with its many interesting buildings.

Directions to start: Bramford is located on the B1113, just north of Ipswich.

Parking: Join the walk at Bramford picnic site.

Nearest train station: 4 miles (Ipswich).

Points of interest: Gipping Valley, Bramford Meadows Nature Reserve, Sproughton Village and Mill.
