Description

Over 7 million people visit the Norfolk and Suffolk Broads each year. As with agriculture, tourism is now very important economically to the area. But how did the tourism industry start? How did people find out about, and travel to, a part of the country without established transport links?

‘Wish You Were Here!’ looks at tourism through the centuries. Explore the early water-based attractions, look at how railways brought holidays to ordinary people, see some of the early travel guides, discover the impact on existing river traders and the boatyards, find a surprising link to the hovercraft, and, in the year that celebrates the 200th anniversary of the Museum’s own waterside buildings, trace the history of staithes using Stalham as a worthy example.

Don’t miss the chance to watch footage of a 1930s holiday, record your memories of holidays on the Broads and see the provisions boat, Our Boys, in a new light.

We look forward to welcoming you to this unique and special celebration of Broadland holidays!
