Whilst Nicholas Everitt Park is a delightful green space with many attractions, its location alongside the broads is no doubt its greatest asset.
Used throughout the year for many events, it is particularly renowned for those activities associated with the broad itself. Home of the Lowestoft and Oulton Broad Motor and Sailing clubs, there is always something to interest the visitor and a large number of powerboat racing events take place during the summer months. The park is one of the most popular areas around The Sunrise Coast, with brass band concerts, artist displays and garden fetes, giving the park a wide mixture of events to suit the entire family.
There are numerous access points to the park. The route along The Boulevard, past the Harbour Master’s Office and the boats moored on Oulton Broad, access to the edge of the broad. This is a very popular location for fishing, particularly for those who are new to the pastime.
In the centre of the park, is a traditional bandstand and a large, open space. This is a popular spot for picnics and parents can sit down and relax while their children play. Beyond this is the children’s play area, trampolines, crazy golf and refreshment facilities.
Entering the park from The Crescent takes in traditional seasonal bedding displays and leads down to the tennis courts and bowling greens. Turning right at this point will once again lead to the bandstand. Stay on the main path, past the public conveniences and it will bring you to the Lowestoft Museum which presents 1000 years of local history including the famous Lowestoft Porcelain.
Beyond the museum, the path continues back towards the broad with several ponds along the way. Add to this the mature trees, grass and reeds and this beautiful park provides lots of opportunities to enjoy the birds and other wildlife which frequent this green space. Continue past the slipway and boathouses and the route offers a gateway to explore beyond the park.
In close proximity to the park you will find a range of restaurants, public houses, hotels, local shopping and a frequent train service that runs into the town centre and the award winning South Beach areas of Lowestoft.
Both bowling and tennis facilities are available and operate on a ‘pay and play’ basis. They are open from 10am until dusk from May to September inclusive.
