Salhouse Broad is located on the River Bure between Wroxham and Horning, in the heart of the Norfolk Broads.
Welcome to Salhouse Broad: a place of great natural beauty. With over forty acres of beautiful natural surroundings Salhouse Broad is part of the Broads executive area and member of the National Park Family. We are host to exceptional natural scenery, abundant wildlife and wonderful views across this ancient waterway. At Salhouse Broad you can moor your boat or come by foot, explore our nature boardwalks or hire a canoe and discover the real Broadland wilderness at one of Britain’s finest National Nature Reserves. There are woodland paths to wander, kayak and canoes to hire, camping for the adventurous, play areas for the energetic and plenty of space for your dogs to enjoy. We welcome you to our beautiful broad and would love for you to enjoy all that we have to offer here.
Salhouse Broad is the perfect place to try canoeing for the first time. The sheltered Broad has the peaceful old wherry cut to explore and for those who wish to travel a bit further, destinations Horning or Ranworth are easily reachable within the 3 and 6 hour hire options, where you can stop for a pub lunch or explore the beautiful scenery close up- looking out for wildlife including the reed warbler, swallowtail butterfly, Norfolk hawker, marsh harrier and many others.
Why not wild camp here and wake up to stunning broad views; bring your bikes or canoes, or hire from us and explore the local area in a low impact way. Our camping corner is a one minute walk from the water’s edge and in the perfect location to watch Broadland sunsets and explore the Broads National Park as your garden.
Discover Hoveton Great Broad Nature Trail by canoe and discover the real Broadland wilderness at one of Britain’s finest National Nature Reserves. Managed by Natural England and with an onsite Warden, the trail is the perfect place for an hour long stroll. The trail is only accessible by water – and the easiest way to do this is by hiring a canoe.
For those lucky enough to live close by why not walk or bike to Salhouse Broad? If you live a little further away, our excellent public services mean you can arrive by a regular bus or train service all week- please see Konnect 5b Bus Service or the Bittern Line Train Service. For those coming by boat, you can moor up at Salhouse Broad using the stern-on moorings inside the Broad, or side-on moorings on the river (perfect for fishing and peace and quiet although there is no access to mainland). There is a charge for mooring (see our website for up to date prices). All revenue collected from the mooring fees goes back into the management and conservation of Salhouse Broad.
There is so much to do at Salhouse Broad; not least as here you can wake up to incredible views and surrounded by nature with our campsite or moor your boat in our beautiful broad with running water and other amenities available. You can hire a canoe or kayak for the day or even by the hour and explore the stunning waterways of the Norfolk Broads. Natural paths take you through the bluebell woods, walk your dogs amongst the trees and pathways, bring your children to paddle or run free in our play area. You can bring a blanket and picnic for the day or just sit back and have a cup of tea and cake from the wonderful Hungry Otter and take in the our beautiful waterway views.
