Music, art, education & conversation in a beautiful 19th century farm complex with outstanding facilities.
Stapleford Granary (also known as The Association of Cultural Exchange) is an Arts Centre whose aim is to foster cultural understanding through education. We aspire to be a unique, inspiring environment for experiencing music and art, underpinned by our ‘culturally curious’ approach. We believe that the Arts enrich lives and provide a foundation upon which we can better understand, respect and value one another.
Stapleford Granary was a derelict 19th century farm, once a state-of-the-art Victorian complex with a particularly fine two-storey granary. In 2009 the charity bought these beautiful buildings as a home for ACE Cultural Tours and a place for music and the arts to thrive. The new Stapleford Granary building was awarded a RIBA Regional East Award 2019 for its authentic renovation whilst staying true to many of the original features. The site has a concert hall with an excellent acoustic enhanced by Douglas fir flooring and local gault brick walls. The space also includes recording and filming facilities, studios, gallery walkway and café.
Our beautiful café serves the finest Butterworth’s coffee, teas, cold drinks and exceptional locally sourced cakes, pastries & savouries. An integral part of the Stapleford Granary art centre experience, the café has been lovingly designed, furnished, planted, decorated and stocked entirely by the staff who work here. You’ll find evidence of our own passions – walls of art, iconic prints, story-telling, music and local crafts – alongside a carefully curated gift shop. Discover prints by Kate Heiss, ceramics by Chalkstone Pottery and Little Shop of Pots and a range of books, candles, soaps, children’s gifts and cards designed by local artists and photographers. It’s a perfect spot for meeting friends, sitting outside on the terrace or in our cosy, stylish indoor seating areas. You can take in our free exhibitions, wander down to the Orchard, or chat to us about the many concerts and events that take place here throughout the year. And for our youngest visitors there’s always a fun ‘Curious About…’ activity pack to pick up and discover something new.
