The Anchor

The Anchor at Walberswick is fast becoming a welcoming local and a gastronomic destination.

Opening Times

The Anchor is an award-winning inn and restaurant in the charming village of Walberswick across the river from Southwold. Mark and Sophie Dorber bought The Anchor in November 2004, bringing their skills and expertise from The White Horse, Parson’s Green (The Sloaney Pony, voted best pub in Britain in 2005 and 2006). An Arts and Craft building, The Anchor sits in an acre of garden overlooking the dunes and beach huts. Four bedrooms in the main building and six large eco-clad chalets in the garden provide quiet, comfortable accommodation.

We have created a village local that is both family friendly and a welcome retreat for all who enjoy good conversation, food and drink. Great effort is put into sourcing flavourful ingredients and local and international beers, as well as characterful wines. On offer are oysters from West Mersea, smoked fish from Lowestoft, Jimmy Butler’s Blythburgh pork, Red Poll Beef reared in nearby Westleton, and vegetables from local farms and our allotment. We bake our own bread daily for the restaurant and for sale at the bar. Wines are from pioneering growers such as Huet, Ridge, Anne Gros and John Forrest. Our beers are created by iconic brewers Sierra Nevada, Orval, Schneider and local hero, Adnams.

Our 18th Century flint barn has under-floor heating and an in-house cinema screen. It is ideal for sit-down events for up to 30 people, drinks parties, dinners, and business meetings. It is often put to good use in the cause of village-based charity fundraising projects as well as our August beer festival and numerous art exhibitions.
