The Colony Stud and farm at Hollesley Bay played a crucial role in the development of rural life in Suffolk, as well as farming throughout the British colonies. It has served many purposes in its 260+ year history before becoming the educational visitor attraction it is today.
The Suffolk Punch Trust, a registered charity dedicated to the preservation of Suffolk’s unique history, operates The Hollesley Bay Colony Stud, the world’s oldest stud farm breeding the endangered Suffolk Horse. The Trust safeguards the future of this unique animal, which shaped the landscape of Suffolk and played a crucial role in the development of farming throughout the British colonies.
The Hollesley Bay Colony Stud is a great day out for all ages. Come and see this seasons foals, rare Large Black Pigs, Red Poll Cattle and Suffolk Sheep. There is also a large vehicle and implement display, a heritage exhibition and cinema as well as our brand new play area, gift shop and coffee shop which provides light lunches and a fantastic afternoon tea!
