A rare surviving example of a private Victorian town garden, created between 1856-1897 in a former medieval chalk quarry and undergoing restoration by volunteers.
Architectural features include a 30ft Gothic fountain, an Italianate terrace, rustic bridge and woodland paths. Mature trees and superb planting schemes provide year round colour. Just 10 minutes’ walk from the city centre and close to St Johns Cathedral, this Grade II English Heritage Listed garden will be holding special events as detailed on our websites.
‘Fascinating, awe inspiring – a hidden gem.’
As a registered charity we rely almost solely on entrance fees and donations. Much of the ongoing maintenance and restoration is undertaken by volunteers. Please contact us if you are able to help.
