With around 500 miles of coast, the East of England has it all, not least stunning beaches.
Great Yarmouth, Cromer, Hunstanton, Southend-on-Sea, Clacton-on-Sea and Lowestoft became popular when Victorian developed the train network, and today they’re still fabulous family-friendly resorts.
The coastline is peppered with National Nature Reserves to enjoy wildlife, some of the best birdwatching in the country and England’s largest seal colony. There are two Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty – Suffolk Coast and Heaths and Norfolk Coast.
Experience the Deep History Coast where the oldest evidence of man discovered outside Africa’s Great Rift Valley was found – the first tourists to the UK came to visit the East of England.
There are so many landscapes to explore: river estuaries, tidal saltmarshes and creeks, shingle spits, soaring cliffs, dunes topped with marram grass, quaint fishing villages and seaside towns. Most of it can be discovered on foot so bring your walking shoes.
And you’ll find great beaches in the region too. Huge expanses of fine sand to spend your days having picnics, playing sports, relaxing or taking a dip in the sea.
