Art workshops and talks -whether you’re a beginner or getting back to your creative practice
An exciting new series of artist-led creative workshops and talks are arriving near Beccles. They will feature art forms from portraits to sculpture and talks from Cezanne to modernism. All will be led by Grace Adam, who splits her time between teaching in London and pursuing her own art in Suffolk. They will unfold in a lovely studio in a Raveningham cherry orchard.
Grace Adam lectures at Chelsea College of Arts and the Royal Academy. She has also led workshops at the National Portrait Gallery, Courtauld and the Tate – as well as with community groups, schools and colleges. She can be found presenting Youtube’s Art Channel. She also featured in last summer’s Sculpture in the Valley.
The workshops run from 21 January to 3 June and cover portraits, modernist painting, cut-outs and collage, 2D into 3D, abstraction, sculpture with found objects, creating an artist’s book, still life and figure drawing. They run from 10am to 3pm. Grace Adam is clear about making them comfortable as well as creative: ‘We’ll start with a short Powerpoint and some context; then materials are provided – as well as as lib hot drinks. However experienced you are, the instruction well be relaxed and individually tailored’.
The talks are between 20 January and 17 February. There’s Modernism at the Tate, Cezanne at Tate Modern; Modernism and Spain and the Hispanic world – both at the RA. They run from 7-9pm, again with drinks provided. As someone with a foot in both camps, Grace is hoping these will have a dual purpose. ‘They might be a substitute for that London exhibition you can’t make, or preparation if you’re going. Find out about the artists, and how the exhibitions are curated’
