Sudbury, Suffolk is an ancient market town sitting pretty in the heart of the Stour Valley on the Essex / Suffolk border and is the birthplace of internationally celebrated 18th century artist, Thomas Gainsborough.

Your guide will take you on a Sudbury stroll through time with some fascinating stories to bring the streets of this ancient market town to life. Hear more about why Sudbury is still the silk capital of the UK, how the ancient water meadows and common lands are a haven for wildlife, Sudbury’s links with Lords, legends and literature, naval bunting and the wool industry, Boudicea – the Queen of the Iceni tribe, Charles Dickens and the rotten borough and of course the ill-fated Simon of Sudbury – the Archbishop of Canterbury 1371.
