Description

History

The airfield at RAF Bury St Edmunds (Rougham) was constructed in 1942 and became operational with the 447th Bomb Group (Medium) and the 322nd Bomb Group (Medium) before the arrival of the 94th Bomb Group (Heavy) in 1943. The 94th BG flew B-17 Flying Fortresses, completing over 300 combat missions during the war.

Formed in 1994, the Rougham Tower Association established the museum to preserve the history of this vital airbase. Housed in the original Control Tower, the museum tells the story of the men and women who served here, with detailed exhibits, photographs, and personal accounts.
