Inspired by the vast skies and moody seas of the Suffolk coast, Benjamin Britten and Peter Pears, along with writer Eric Crozier, founded the Aldeburgh Festival in 1948 - pioneering an era of arts organisations engaging in the education and support of young artists.

This year’s festival celebrates Britten and America, Bernstein’s centenary, and the spirit of 1948. We welcome acclaimed artists and ensembles from around the world including John Wilson, Patricia Kopatchinskaja, Claire Chase, Le Concert Spirituel, Mahler Chamber Orchestra and Bryn Terfel, alongside 15 world premieres from composers including Emily Howard, Simon Holt and Harrison Birtwistle.
