Brancaster Mussels in Season

Bancaster Mussels

Mussels

September usually marks the start of Mussel season which can be enjoyed until around April. These delicious morsels were once regarded as the poor relation of the shellfish family because of their small size and relative abundance. Today mussels are now very popular no doubt because they are delicious, easy to prepare and fairly cheap to purchase. Enjoy your sustainable Mussels completely guilt free! We love them steamed with garlic, butter and white wine with a squeeze of lemon (and maybe some chips on the side!).

Where to Buy

Mussels

For the freshest mussels you can purchase Brancaster mussels directly from fisherman on the North Norfolk coastal road (A149). You can also purchase mussels when in season from The Crab Hut or The Fish Shed on Brancaster Staithe, Gurneys Fish Shop at Burnham Market and Farm to Fork and Fish in Horstead. Take them home and cook up a feast! Need for inspiration? Click below for Jamie Oliver mussel recipes!
