Magic Moments in Norwich

In October half term, Norwich plays host to a bewitching celebration of conjuring, wizardry and illusion, plus we’ll be offering you some tips on some of our other ‘magical’ family days out.

Headlining our programme of Magic Moments in Norwich, we’re delighted to welcome Swedish sleight-of-hand sensations, Charlie Caper and Malin Nilsson, with their incredible magic show, Minor Miracles.

Magic Moments Festival: Charlie Caper

Charlie Caper became one with the Swedish nation when he won Sweden’s Got Talent 2009. He has also starred in his own prime time TV show ”Helt Magiskt”. Charlie is a street magician by heart and been traveling around the world performing in 40 different countries, perfecting his sleight of hand during more than 4500 shows. You’ll be astounded by his mesmerising sleight-of-hand tricks!

This is a free event for all the family.

Magic Moments Festival: Minor Miracles

Winner of Best Magic Award at the Adelaide Fringe Festival 2016!

She is the glorious enfant terrible of magic. He is a gentleman hobo, a conjuror extraordinaire. All the way from Sweden, Caper and Nilsson bring their unique combination of magic, comedy and surrealism. A laugh out-loud, one-of-a-kind magic show packed with world class sleight-of-hand magic and topped with a pinch of confetti.Malin Nilsson is a magician with passion for creating unique magic and live shows. She is known for her variety inspired style and unpretentious way of performing magic. Malin grew up at a small theatre in the south of Sweden where she returns every year with a new show. She appears frequently at The Magic Castle in Hollywood, the world most prestigious stage for magic and has performed more than 200 shows at the Krystallpalast in Leipzig.

Conjure up a magical puppet character using our vast array of materials. At the end of the session participants will have their own wonderful working puppet to take home for a show.

Calling all wizards and witches – a chance to get crafty and create your own wondrous warlock’s hat illuminare! Join costume designer, Julia Pascoe to make your very own witch or wizard hat to take home.

Join local illustrator and maker Roberta Wood for a crafty afternoon of magical making. Design and create a magical pop-up to take home. All materials included.

The Real Halloween, Bradmoor Woods, West Acre, 27 & 28 October

Magic Moments Festival

Taking place at the very beautiful Bradmoor Woods, West Acre. The Real Halloween is different to any other Halloween event on offer and focusses on what is enchanting about the season, not anything scary. It’s a great family friendly event experiencing the authentic magic of nature in a beautiful and atmospheric setting. Be sure to stay for the lantern parade, fire show and Real Halloween story!
Full details will be announced later but the Real Halloween brings you a bumper collection of ways for children to connect with nature in the autumn at this non-scary, family event.

Workshops include: Magic Wands, Wizard Shields, Witch’s Owls, Witch’s Kitchen, Witch and Wizard Training. Plus: The Halloween Games, Fairy King & Queen, The Real Halloween Story and Lantern Parade Fire Show, Music, entertainment and much more!

Saturday 1-7pm, Sunday 12-6pm

The Glorious Glowing Lantern Parade, BeWILDerwood, 13 to 31 October

Magic Moments Festival

BeWILDerwood’s most famous, fabulous, fantastical event of the year! Have the best day exploring the magical woodland, meeting the BeWILDerbats and seeing the spooky decorations in the park. It’s a treat, not a trick, running wild through tree houses and zipping on zip wires at BeWILDerwood!

But make sure you stay for dusk, that’s when the real fun begins! BeWILDerwood will glow in a magical light extravaganza. See the woods in a whole new light, as all the inhabitants come out celebrate our Glorious Glowing Lantern Parade!

Get creative and craft a beautiful lantern for a Slitheriegrub to live in, which will guide your way through the misty woods. Wear your best spooky costumes and visit the Face Painting Pavilion (all-inclusive of course!) to make sure you look truly spooktacular!

Children’s Holiday Studio, Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts, 23 & 24 October

Sainsbury Centre of Visual Arts

Artist Annie Brundrit will lead creative activities that explore flight, birds and autumnal darkness. Using collage, 3-D cardboard construction, and creative destruction, create some of the angular shapes and the haunting associations of crows and rooks. We will look at bird sculptures in the Sainsbury Collection and in the Elisabeth Frink exhibition Humans and Other Animals.
All materials are provided. Children need to bring a packed lunch.
