The idyllic town of Holt arose from a fire which devastated the original medieval town in 1708. Today the town attracts many artists, photographers, walkers as well as families and it's not hard to see why! The charming town is awash with bookshops, galleries, antique and bric-a-brac shops to explore. There are plenty of places to stay making it an ideal base for exploring the nearby woodland, coast and wildlife. This Georgian gem of a town is well worth a visit.

What to do: Cley Marshes

Cley marshes

NWT Cley Marshes is Norfolk Wildlife Trust’s oldest and best-known nature reserve and one of the best places in the UK for bird-watching. The shingle beach and saline lagoons, along with the grazing marsh and reedbed support large numbers of wintering and migrating wildfowl and waders, as well as bittern, marsh harrier and bearded tit. The eco-friendly visitor centre has a café, shop and breath-taking views across the Marsh to the sea.

Holt is just a 15 minute drive from the beautiful North Norfolk coast and ideal base to explore the coastal towns of Sheringham and Blakeney.  There are some lovely coastal walks and crabbing spots! Or you can ride the North Norfolk Railway from Holt to Sheringham via Weybourne on the Poppy line
