East Anglia is no bit-part player when it comes to the silver screen. North Norfolk’s Holkham Beach dwarfed Gwyneth Paltrow in Shakespeare in Love, the Norman Foster-designed Sainsbury Centre of Visual Arts at the University of East Anglia doubled as the New York HQ of Marvel’s Avengers, and the Norfolk Broads stood in as Asian paddy fields in both Stanley Kubrick’s Full Metal Jacket and James Bond’s Die Another Day.

What’s more, Suffolk and Norfolk will be taking centre stage in the upcoming Danny Boyle-directed, Beatles-themed movie, Yesterday, which was penned by Suffolk resident Richard Curtis and features an extensive cameo performance from fellow East Anglian, Ed Sheeran.

As well as the numerous Hollywood locations, film lovers will also find across the region no shortage of international film festivals, independent arthouse cinemas and regular film nights. Favourites include the Norwich Film Festival and FilmFeast Suffolk, Norwich’s Cinema City, the Electric Picture Palace in Southwold and The Riverside in Woodbridge, and Film Night at Old Jet in Rendlesham and the Community Cinema Club in King’s Lynn.
