Music

Framlingham’s Ed Sheeran isn’t the only globally revered musician or music lover to take inspiration from the East of England.

Lowestoft-born composer Benjamin Britten founded the world-renowned Aldeburgh Festival in 1948, with the event taking up permanent residence at Snape Maltings in 1967.

Further inland, you’ll now find the John Peel Centre for the Creative Arts, which honours the influential broadcaster and DJ in his adopted hometown of Stowmarket.

Numerous venues host concerts and gigs include the University of East Anglia Lower Common Room, Theatre Royal and Waterfront all in Norwich, Ipswich Regent Theatre, and Cambridge Corn Exchange.

From a thriving grassroots pub circuit to some of the nation’s best festivals in the shape of Latitude, First Light, Forest Live in Thetford Forest and the Norfolk & Norwich Festival (the UK’s longest-running arts celebration), the East offers something for every taste.
