Dance
The East of England has a rich dance history worthy of celebration. The region was home to Sir Fredrick Ashton, one of nation’s greatest choreographers and founder of the Royal Ballet, along with his friend Benjamin Britten, one of the major influencers of 20th Century music.
Numerous past and present artists have chosen to reside in the region, including Suffolk resident Gary Avis MBE, Senior Ballet Master and Principal Character Artist for The Royal Ballet.
This combined love of music and dance remains alive in the region today, in the unique partnership between DanceEast and Snape Maltings, who present extraordinary talents through their Snape Dances programme.
These influences perhaps go a long way to explain why dance is such a vital element of the East for audiences, aficionados and participants alike.
